Safe Kids Worldwide is a network of global organizations dedicated to providing parents and caregivers the resources to protect children from accidental injuries and death. Did you know that 9 million children are injured everyday in the United States and every 30 seconds a child dies from a preventable injury? Since Safe Kids was founded in 1988 by Dr. Marty Eichelberger of the Children’s National Medical Center with support from founding sponsor, Johnson and Johnson, Safe Kids has helped reduce the death rate for children in the United States by 55 percent. Safe Kids work with more than 600 coalitions in the United States and 23 other countries to reduce traffic injuries, drownings, falls, burns, poisonings and many more preventable injuries. Safe Kids helps by finding solutions to prevent injuries and teaching families how to keep their kids safe from preventable injuries. Safe Kids provides lifesaving devices such as child safety seats, helmets and smoke/carbon monoxide alarms to families who need them. Safe Kids works to pass and improve child safety laws and regulations.

On Saturday, April 12 Safe Kids Day was celebrated in NYC. Held at the Highline Stages this carnival experience for kids and their families was filled with fun, games, food and safety awareness. The kids enjoyed various activities that were all aimed with safety in mind. Bell Helmets fitted and provided all the kids with new helmets. There was a fun house full of safety awareness tips for your home, a big top ball pool for swimming safety and many more fun activities aimed with safety awareness in mind.
Proceeds from Safe Kids Day NYC will help fund local and national injury prevention programs, expand existing programs and launch new programs to protect kids in our community. The Safe Kids campaign has raised more than $900,000 to help keep kids safe from preventable injuries.

1. Tug on your kid’s car seat where the seat belt goes. If it moves more than 1″ at the base, tighten it up.
2. Secure furniture and TVs. Mount flat screens and keep bukly-style TVs on a low and stable base, or recycle them.
3. Check smoke and CO alarms monthly. Replace devices every 10 years. Replace batteries every year.
4. Scan your home for places kids can get into medicine. It is pills in purses, vitamins on counters and medicine in daily reminder boxes that curious kids get into.
5. Check around your home for coin-sized button batteries.
6. Ask your kid’s coaches if they have had concussion or sports safety training.
7. Take the Safe Kids Challenge: Take Action Against Distraction – Distraction impacts driving, walking, bath time and just about everything. Here is the Safe Kids Challenge: take a month to notice times when you or your kids are distracted. Help each other remember to put down the phone or whatever is distracting you and focus on looking out for each other.
